Where my art business started

Where my art business started

Like many other artists that begin their entrepreneurial journey, whether new to the game or in rediscovery mode...I started in my kitchen on the table. It was a sweet little secret I kept to myself for a long time because I wanted to dive in and reconnect with something that was a part of me for such a long time when I was younger. The one thing I truly loved and brought me such positive and happy feelings.

So why did I lose touch and disconnect? Unfortunately I think I got fully absorbed by outsider influence and the influx of other people's reality - Art is a hobby; you can't earn a decent salary as an artist; it's too much hard work; you can't rely on a regular income; time to get sensible and find a job; time to find a job and pay your way; think about your pension and retirement. As you can imagine, this really burst my bubble and didn't really do my mental health any favours.

Back in to the room...

I still have a passion for art, but I also have a lot of life experience and skills that I can now bring to the table and use when navigating this new journey of mine as a self employed artist, a one woman show, a determined creative entrepreneur.

My art space was my kitchen table, which I loved dearly - but I did feel a little restricted, so I made the easy decision to turn half of my kitchen space into an art studio. Wow! Why I didn't do it sooner I don't know but it felt instantly fabulous! The images above are when I first started - it pretty much looks the same, but a bit busier with more materials (you can never have enough!).

Yes the studio is small, yes the studio is essentially my kitchen, but it's MY space, in MY safe haven, and let's be honest, we all have to start somewhere. I consider myself lucky and grateful to have a space I can do this in. Many use a corner of a room, or even start curled up on the sofa with an art pad and a small box of materials - and this is great. What is important is that we made the jump forward and decided to pursue our passions without knowing the full journey ahead.

Sure I can dream about the future, how my business has gone from strength to strength...and how eventually I was able to find an amazing space to set up as my new spacious, airy, bright studio, but for now i'm happy to enjoy

my little slice of heaven

With positivity,

Helen x
